An On Bast No Cage ep

Sunday, April 17th, 2011

No Cage ep review on Muno of Poland.

A year has passed since the release of the excellent EPs "Upon The Dew Drops" (supported by Luciano among others) so it's time to show the world the latest work by An On Bast - "No Cage EP".

"No Cage" consists of 3 tracks maintained in the tech-house style, in which An On Bast is not afraid to experiment, creating interesting and unique sound collages. She admits that the EP is geared towards a good groove, while dodging the music rules.

"DumDum" slowly introduces us to the world of colorful and joyful sounds. Anna skillfully combines expressive synths with minimal and clicky beat and a little bit ethnic vocal samples. The song gently hypnotizes and by great design nothing detracts its receiving.

Time for announced experiments! "Saxhopper" bursts of the original solutions and unconventional samples, such as a storm of applause in the middle of the track. The leitmotif here is a happy saxophone playing. Blend of these sounds reminiscent of crazy style of Noze or Parisian trio dOP. "Cat The King" confirms our belief that inspiration can be made of French artists. Here attention is drawn to a surprising melody places deliberately losing sync with the beats, juxtaposed with a deeper groove.

An On Bast ‘Upon The Dew Drops’

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

An On Bast of Poland, recently likened to such a name as Stephan Bodzin, and a participant in the Red Bull Music Academy in Melbourne releases her second ep on La Folia Recordings.

A release that started with the single original electronic track has blossomed into a well rounded mixed genre, four track EP. Notable producer Douglas Greed volunteered to remix An’s original track, creating a colorful sonic painting filled with found sounds that mingle perfectly with the original melodies. Chris Ward aka C Dubs, recently featured on the ‘Together Festival’ CD, and label head Inanna have taken the ‘it’ genre of the moment, Dubstep, and re-created An‘s audio brilliance adding an original bassline that rattles.

"Like the original the best. The dubstep remix is nice. Sounds like a good package all in all."  - Ginz - Tectonic - Vertical Sound - Multiverse

"Great stuff. Especially feeling the Inanna and C Dubs mix. Been rinsing it @ DUBWISE recently." - G Notorious

"Loving the sounds on this. Great release all around. Chris Ward and Inanna remix does it for me on this one!" - Jason Giacoppo - Red Bull Music Academy

"Glad your time at the academy was well spent! Excellent sonic depth in the original version!" - Davide Bortot - Red Bull Music Academy

An On Bast – Calypso

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

The memories and meaning of An On Bast's four track, minimal techno inspired ep 'Calypso' reside in the little details of sound, where An poetically places her stories. The title track, ‘Calypso Ice-Cream’, is a moment and a memory of the past, inspired by a now retired ice cream flavor. It's sprinkled with sounds that inspire the colored thoughts of being a playful child, on a hot summer day. ‘What Size’ is a darker dream. It haunts, and its tightening grip doesn’t want to let you go. It intro with atmospherics, and a rising tension ensues as sounds layer. The release rounds off with ‘Nuzzle Up’, and ‘Wild-A-Click’, two dance-floor friendly tracks with a quick, quirky pace.

"Brilliant techno. Calypso Ice Cream is up there with something I'd expect Stephan Bodzin to produce. Good stuff."

"Original, fresh, and beautiful sounds."

Stories in Books EP – Mathew Leutwyler

Stories in Books EP

Mathew kicks of the 2009 releases with his 'Stories In Books EP'. 'Stories In Books' is a collection of four musical short stories who's distinguishing characters meander through a misty landscape of lullabies, dreams, nightmares, and fairy tales.

Mathew uses a field recording device to record sounds in the natural environment and skillfully put them into play. He edits them into percussion and atmospheric sonic elements that breath organic life into his music. Clinking ice cubes, and the panting of sled dogs have been meticulously tweaked into bitcrushed percussives and textures.

"Quality mood building. Modest pace and a mature vibe. Adult contemporary dance music. Great stuff."

"Intensely intimate- lots of contrasting emotions. Leutwyler's "Let it Snow" is one moody night goove, "Music Box" is sensitive to the touch, and "Needle Fits Thread" is dawn-after-party-with-incoming-hangover seedy."
